Share XML Results
Upload an XML comparison to the share server and create a short link with an expiration.
The Share button on the XML result page uploads your comparison to the share server and gives you a short link that anyone can open to see the same result.
How to Share
- Compare two XML documents so the result page is showing your diff.
- In Data Compare, click Share in the result toolbar.
- Review the sizes of the Base and Contrast inputs, then choose an expiration time.
- Click Share again to create the link, then copy it.
The link looks like this:
https://comparejson.com/tools/compare-xml/result?share_id=abc123
Opening it loads the stored snapshot and runs the comparison automatically; the recipient does not need the original files.
Expiration and Size Limits
The available expiration options depend on the total payload size:
| Total size | Available expirations |
|---|---|
| Up to 300 KB | Forever, 1 year, 30 days, 7 days |
| 300 KB – 5 MB | 1 year, 30 days, 7 days |
| Over 5 MB | Sharing is not available |
After a share expires, the link shows a “not found or expired” message and the content is no longer accessible.
Editing a Shared Result
When you open a shared link, the toolbar shows an edit button instead of Share. Clicking it loads the shared content into the XML editors so you can modify it and run a new comparison. The original shared snapshot is not changed.
Privacy
- Shared content is stored on the share server until it expires. Anyone with the link can view it, so share links only with people who should have access.
- URL loading has two modes. Only Base64 URL loading places the content itself in the URL. Remote URL loading stores the source address, and your browser requests that source.
- In either URL-loading mode, the URL is sent with page requests and may be recorded in hosting service logs. Do not place sensitive data in URLs.
