Best Online YAML Diff Tool

Compare Two YAML Files and Spot Every Difference

A semantic YAML diff tool that understands structure — not just text. Detect value changes, type mismatches, and missing keys with full path context.

YAML Compare Tool Features

A client-side YAML comparison tool that parses structure semantically — not just text. Fast, private, and built for developers who need to check YAML differences.

Semantic YAML Diff Visualization

Color-coded highlights for every difference: green for additions, red for deletions, yellow for modifications. Full key-path reporting for nested structures.

Instant YAML Compare

Efficient recursive algorithms compare YAML documents with thousands of keys in under a second. No server round-trip, no loading spinners.

100% Client-Side & Private

All YAML parsing and diffing happens in your browser using JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device unless you choose to share a result — zero server uploads by default, zero logging.

How to Compare YAML Online

Start comparing YAML documents in three simple steps — no installation or signup needed.

01

Paste Your YAML Documents

Enter or paste two YAML documents into the left (Base) and right (Contrast) editor panels. You can also drag-and-drop files or import from a URL.

02

Run the YAML Diff

Click 'Compare' to instantly parse both inputs, normalize structure, and produce a semantic diff with all differences highlighted.

03

Review the YAML Difference Results

View color-coded diff results with additions, deletions, and modifications highlighted inline. Navigate each difference by category in the sidebar.

How Semantic YAML Comparison Works

Unlike text-based diff tools, our YAML comparator understands document structure. It parses, normalizes, and recursively compares — so formatting, indentation, and key reordering never produce false diffs.

01

Parse & Normalize YAML

Both inputs are parsed into data trees with the yaml parser. Comments, anchors, and aliases are resolved during parsing — so style differences never create false positives.

02

Recursive Key Comparison

The algorithm traverses both trees recursively, comparing values at each level. It detects added or deleted keys, type changes, and value modifications at every nesting level.

03

Sequence Matching Strategies

Sequences can be matched using three strategies: By Index (positional), LCS (Longest Common Subsequence for intelligent insertion/deletion detection), and Unordered (set-like comparison ignoring item order).

04

Visual YAML Diff Rendering

Each difference is mapped back to your original YAML text — comments and formatting stay intact — and rendered with color-coded highlights and full key-path context.

YAML Diff Use Cases

YAML comparison is essential across modern DevOps and configuration workflows. Use this YAML checker for these common scenarios.

Kubernetes Manifests

Compare Kubernetes deployment manifests, ConfigMaps, or Helm values across environments. Verify exactly what changes before rolling out to production.

CI/CD Pipeline Configs

Diff GitHub Actions workflows, GitLab CI configs, or CircleCI pipelines between branches or repositories. Catch unintended changes in build steps, triggers, or secrets references.

Docker Compose & Infra Config

Compare docker-compose files, infrastructure definitions, or service configurations across versions and environments with structure-aware precision.

Application Configuration Review

Review application config changes — feature flags, environment settings, API endpoints — with semantic comparison that ignores formatting noise.

Load YAML Data via URL

Load YAML data into the comparison result page by passing URL query parameters. Useful for sharing diff results, CI/CD integration, or linking from documentation.

Load YAML from File URL

Pass publicly accessible URLs to the base and contrast parameters. The tool will fetch and compare the YAML content from these URLs automatically.

Load YAML from Base64

Encode your YAML content as a Base64 string and pass it directly in the URL. Use base-64.com to encode/decode your data.

FAQ

01Is my YAML data sent to a server?
No — unless you explicitly use the Share feature. All YAML parsing and comparison happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device — we don't collect, transmit, or store any of the YAML you input. The tool works even offline once loaded. The optional Share feature on the result page uploads the compared content to our share server to generate a link, stored only until the expiration you choose.
02How are anchors, aliases, and comments handled?
Anchors and aliases are fully resolved during parsing, so comparisons run on the final resolved values. Comments and formatting style (block vs flow, quote style) are ignored for comparison semantics — only the data itself is compared.
03What about large YAML documents?
The tool uses an efficient recursive algorithm optimized for hierarchical data. It can handle YAML documents with thousands of keys and deeply nested structures, performing comparisons quickly in the browser.
04How are sequences (lists) compared?
You can choose between three modes: 'By Index' compares items at the same position, 'LCS' (Longest Common Subsequence) intelligently detects insertions and deletions, and 'Unordered' treats items as a set — ignoring order entirely.
05Does the diff view keep my original formatting?
Yes. The result view highlights differences directly on your original YAML text — comments, indentation style, and ordering are preserved. Differences are mapped back to the exact source lines.
