Best Online HTML Diff Tool

Compare Two HTML Files and Spot Every Difference

A semantic HTML diff tool that understands DOM structure — not just text. Detect element changes, attribute modifications, text content differences, and structural shifts with full element-path context.

Contrast HTML

Features

A client-side HTML comparison tool that parses DOM structure semantically — not just text. Fast, private, and built for web developers.

Semantic Diff Visualization

Color-coded highlights for every difference: green for additions, red for removals, yellow for modifications. Full element-path reporting shows exactly where each HTML difference occurs in nested structures.

Instant Comparison

Efficient recursive algorithms compare HTML documents with hundreds of elements in under a second. No server round-trip, no loading spinners.

100% Client-Side & Private

All HTML parsing and diffing happens in your browser using JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device — zero server uploads, zero logging.

How to Compare HTML

Start comparing HTML documents in three simple steps — no installation or signup needed.

01

Enter Your HTML

Enter or paste two HTML documents into the left (Base) and right (Contrast) editor panels. You can also drag-and-drop files or import from a URL.

02

Run the Comparison

Click the 'Compare' button. The tool instantly parses both inputs, normalizes structure, and produces a semantic diff.

03

Review the Diff Results

View color-coded diff results with additions, removals, and modifications highlighted inline. Navigate differences by category in the sidebar.

How Structural HTML Comparison Works

Unlike text-based diff tools, our HTML comparison tool understands DOM structure. It parses, normalizes, and recursively compares — so formatting changes and whitespace differences never produce false diffs.

01

Parse HTML to DOM Tree

Both HTML inputs are parsed into Virtual DOM trees using parse5. Elements, attributes, text nodes, comments, and doctypes are all represented as structured nodes — so whitespace differences never create false positives.

02

Recursive Node Comparison

The algorithm traverses both DOM trees recursively, comparing nodes at each level. It detects added/removed elements, attribute changes, text modifications, and structural differences at every nesting level.

03

Attribute & Content Diff

Element attributes are compared independently — detecting added, removed, or changed attributes. Text content within elements is compared after whitespace normalization.

04

Visual Diff Rendering

Each difference is mapped to its source position and rendered with color-coded highlights — green for additions, red for removals, yellow for modifications — with full element path context.

Use Cases

HTML comparison is essential across web development workflows.

API & SOAP Services

Compare HTML request/response payloads for SOAP web services, REST APIs with HTML responses, or WSDL definitions. Verify endpoint behavior during development, QA, and automated CI/CD pipelines.

Configuration File Diff

Track differences between configuration file versions — pom.html, web.html, Spring configs, Android manifests, or any structured HTML config. Use this HTML diff checker to stay in control.

Data Transformation Validation

Validate HTML data transformations, compare XSLT outputs, or verify data migration results between HTML-based systems and databases.

Document Format Comparison

Compare structured documents in HTML-based formats like DocBook, DITA, or SVG files where element structure matters. Spot every difference in documentation revisions.

Load HTML Data via URL

Load HTML data into the comparison result page by passing URL query parameters. Useful for sharing diff results, CI/CD integration, or linking from documentation.

Load HTML from File URL

Pass publicly accessible URLs to the base and contrast parameters. The tool will fetch and compare the HTML content from these URLs automatically.

Load HTML from Base64

Encode your HTML content as a Base64 string and pass it directly in the URL. Use base-64.com to encode/decode your data.

FAQ

01Is my HTML data sent to a server?
No. All HTML parsing and comparison happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device — we don't collect, transmit, or store any of the HTML you input. The tool works even offline once loaded.
02How does it handle different HTML formatting?
The tool parses HTML into a DOM tree structure, so differences in whitespace, indentation, or formatting don't produce false positives. Only structural and content changes are reported.
03Can it compare full HTML pages?
Yes. The tool handles complete HTML documents including DOCTYPE, head, body, and all nested elements. It can process documents with hundreds of elements quickly in the browser.
04How are attributes compared?
Attributes are compared independently for each element. The tool detects added attributes, removed attributes, and changed attribute values, displaying each as a separate difference.
05How are comments, CDATA, and numeric values handled?
To keep comparisons semantic, the parser normalizes a few things: HTML comments are ignored, CDATA sections are treated as plain text, and numeric-looking values are compared as numbers (so <a>1</a> and <a>1.0</a> are considered equal). Everything else — elements, attributes, and text — is compared exactly.
